Brick Sculpture.jpg
Brick ref.jpg

The art work "Lugares en Fuga (a)"  by Fredy Alzate is a ready made sculpture. Its main materials are bricks and concrete. The artists assembled this materials to build a big ball made out of bricks. The artpiece works with the concept of irony and contrast, as the ball is made with rectangular pieces. Additionally, it looses its functionality because with the materials it is too heavy to play with. This work compares to mine in different aspects. First, it has the sense of using the same small material to create something bigger with its assemblage (mine would be the regular markers). Second, they are both assemblages of materials that attempt to the same concept: irony and taking the functionality away. Neither the markers nor the bricks are useful for their original purposes, but now they work as an art piece. Also, they both use extra materials (concrete and in my case the erasers) to reinforce the concept.

The artwork "Santa Ludovica según Bernini (de la serie Imágenes de chocolate)" is a new form of painting. The artist Vik Muniz did a painting of the sculpture made by Bernini in the 17th century with chocolate. In the museum, the work was presented as a picture, as was my own presented too. Additionally, the intention to contrast a 3D classic sculpture with a 2D contemporary painting made with chocolate was attempted in my artwork too. I wanted to contrast the images known of the Banana Masacre (only photos) with a painting made with food, being the recreation of a taken photo.

He is drawn in augar because he works so hard in the sugar cane crops he is only seen as sugar and not as a person. Therefore, it is a critique to the racism and oppresion.
